NABOKOV DE FLOR EM FLOR
Nabokov going from flower to flower

Vladimir Nabokov em 1929

Edição pertencente à V. N. do "The Butterfly Book"
This edition of The Butterfly Book belonged to V. N.

A real butterfly raid in the notes of Nabokov for a speech on Ulisses.

V. N. notes for Lolita.
We can imagine a butterfly raid troughout USA in the search of the
flower Lolita. Curious is the double name of Humbert Humbert that in
itself can indicate (only suposing) the wings of a butterfly.

It’s the Devil in me
É o demônio em mim.

(Al Sullivan)

I hate when Fran is happy.
Detesto quando Fran está feliz...

That’s why I fuck her once a week whether she wants me to or not.

It drives her new boyfriend crazy since she can never say no.

This is not because I love Fran.
Faço isto não porque ame a Fran.

I love nobody, not even myself.

I just can’t keep from hurting other people.

Some jerks I grew up with beat the crap out of people.
Alguns idiotas com quem cresci conseguem azarar outras pessoas.

I fuck with people’s heads.
Eu só bagunço com a cabeça delas.

The more misery I cause in other folks, the less I feel inside myself.

Even then, I have to keep drinking to keep the ache away.

Even this doesn’t always work.
Mas, mesmo isto, as vezes não funciona,

And certainly not as well as it used to when I could drink enough to pass out.

Now I drink and piss and never pass out.
I hardly even sleep.
Agora eu bebo e mijo, mas nunca caio. Inclusive raramente durmo.

This gives me too much time to think.
E isto me dá tempo para raciocinar.

And my thought are full of hate.
E meus pensamentos são recheados de ódio.

I keep thinking up new ways of torturing Fran and her new man.

I figure the more ways I come up with, the less pain I’ll feel, balancing out some cosmic injustice that has left me so unhappy over the years.

When I fuck Fran she sometimes calls out his name.
It pleases me to think she mike call out my name when she’s fucking him.

I know he wants to kill me, and he would, too, if he could find a way of doing it without losing Fran.

Maybe someday, I’ll push him over the edge into doing it, torturing him enough so he can cease by pain and cause Fran to hate him forever.

I can’t help all this.
It’s just the devil in me.

Catfish Aspirations
Desejos de um bagre

Barefoot, bare-chested, I stood in thick grass
around the edge of our pond while Daddy
na margem de nosso lago enquanto papai
strung fresh chicken liver on fishhooks
ajeitava o figado de galinha no anzol
and cast his line into the middle.
depois jogava a linhada bem longe.

Up the hill, I filled a three-pound
Num elevado eu deixara um pesado
barn bucket with fish feed
balde cheio com quireras para peixe
so Daddy could lure the fish
assim papai poderia atraí-los
from their muddy beds.
desde seus esconderijos na lama.

He told me the catfish sleep
Ele me disse que o bagre dormia
in the deepest darkest water,
no mais escuro ponto da água
burrowed down in the muck.
 bem escondido dentro do lodo
“Daddy, I wish I was a catfish,” I said.

I wanted to soak in the mud in water so murky
Eu queria sumir no meio da lama tão fundo
I couldn’t see the large-mouth bass
que não veria aquela imensa boca
pass an inch in front of my eyes
passar a um centímetro de meus olhos.

He baited my hook and let me cast the line out,
Ele ajeitou meu anzol e deixou que lançasse
the liver flew off mid-flight
o pedaço de fígado que voou alto
and I stood in tangles of fishing line,
enquanto fiquei agitando a linha de pesca,
thinking of hunkering down there forever,
pensando em me acomodar no fundo para sempre
wanting to be just like him.

Shaman gives and takes life. To become a shaman, go alone into the woods and tie the whole body with liana envira. Lie at a crossroads with arms and open legs. First come the night butterflies, Husu, they will cover your entire body. Comes the yuxin who eat Husu until he reaches your head. Then you hug him tightly. It turns into murmuru which has thorns. If you have power and not loose yourself, the murmuru will turn into a snake that wraps around your body. You can stand, until it becomes a jaguar. You keep holding. And so it goes, until you hold nothing at all. You won the race and then can talk, so you explain that want to receive muka juice and shaman gives it to you.

Augusto Branco
